Hi Peter

great website!

Me plus wife and two young kids 6 and 3 are thinking of moving to the area. The possibility of 700 new houses plus amenities sounds horrific! When is there a decision on the possible go-ahead? The A30 is bad enough isn't it?

Is Shaftingham somewhere we should move to? (We do love books however).

Whilst I no longer live in Shaftesbury (I am a Shastonian born 1939 and my ancestors have lived there for several centuries) I regularly visit my elderly mother in Coppice Street. Since the development of Tesco, (what a disaster for the town and the High Street shops as predicted) and the resultant restricted car parking, I have been unable on most occasions to park outside or even near to my mother's house during weekdays until well after 5pm. The "new" car park at Barton Hill is inadequate and so far away from the High Street and indeed Coppice Street as to make parking there inappropriate for me and probably most people.  Are there any plans to provide other town car parks or indeed to restrict parking in Coppice Street? It has become a dangerous rat race and only adequate for one way traffic.

I quite like the improvements to the High Street, again provided that alternative parking arrangements will exist. I have only seen the new elements by the Commons and the Town Hall.  However, for the elderly and disabled with their wheelies/pushers/shopping trolleys, the stone sets are very uneven which makes such devices very difficult and juddery for the likes of my mother to push.

I had a mind to retire home in or near Shaftesbury but the town has deteriorated to such an extent it does not attract me at all (apart from the wonderful views and childhood nostalgia) With the anticipated additional building and the recent shop closures, the lack of appropriate High Street shops and parking facilities plus other missing infrastructure, not a chance!!

Re: The new HGV diversion signs at Coles Lane/St. John's Hill:

These seem to have been delayed for reasons that I have not been able to get to the bottom of satisfactorily; But I have now been given the assurance of Julian Thomas (Dave Diaz's Line Manager) at Dorset County Council that the new signs WILL have been installed by the end of next week (i.e. by Friday 9th March).  There have been temporary signs here for a while but some of them 'dissappeared'.
